I've conquered for Cancer Council
I’m walking for a cancer free future
This year the walk means just that little more to me, not only that it should be my 10th year walking (legs can't remember), but once again cancer has hit a little closer to home - I'm fine, its not me! However it shows once again that no one is immune to cancer and that it can come in any form without warning or prior family history. I'm grateful to the doctors who have been fast on their feet from picking up the possible symptoms, organising tests, required therapies/ surgeries, follow ups etc. The level of care has been amazing in all instances.
Cancer doesn't have or always follow a set pattern, hitting people differently, sitting quietly waiting to strike and its the dedication of these doctors, researchers and places like the Cancer Council foundation that provide time and monetary assistance in finding ways to stop/ eradicate cancer from society, along with resources and support services to those impacted
I'm also in awe of the patients in how they stand up to cancer and say go away, putting their bodies through the wringer to evict out every last cancerous cell in their body. I'm not naive to believe it won't return, but in the here and now, a good fight is put up and I salute those who have gone or still going through it.
I urge everyone to seek out doctors if you feel there is anything out of place, cause cancer doesn't play by any rulebooks in choosing the age, health, wealth of a person, or how it wants to manifest in the body.
So far this year I’ve helped provide:
405 kids with a SunSmart education

277 calls to trained cancer professionals on 13 11 20
or
84 days of a PHD student’s world-class research
