I've conquered for Cancer Council

Why I walk

I lost my mum to breast cancer in 2005, just days before her 51st birthday. I was 21, and my sister was 19. It was incredibly difficult for us to continue living as if nothing had happened.

My mum chose not to pursue treatment, believing partly that breast cancer was a mortal disease from which one could never fully recover.

Living in a small town in the Far East of Russia, she  would have faced inadequate medical care, which influenced her decision.

Now, 19 years later, I want people in my current country to have access to the help and information they need. I want young people to avoid the pain of losing a parent to cancer.

I’m participating in the walk with my friend Maria who has been fighting cancer for several years. I admire her spirit and unbreakable will to live, enjoy life, and care for her family.
